This week, we completed a rewarding garden maintenance project in Gillingham, Dorset, where we transformed an overgrown, outdated flower bed into a beautiful, low-maintenance feature using fresh perennials, mulch matting, and wood mulch.

The first step was to fully dig out the old bed (we forgot to get a photo), removing tired plants, deep-rooted weeds, and compacted soil. Once cleared, we installed weed-suppressing mulch matting — an ideal solution for preventing future weed growth while allowing water and nutrients to reach the new plants.

Next, we planted a vibrant mix of perennials selected for year-round colour and resilience. To complete the job, we topped the bed with natural wood mulch, giving it a neat, professional finish and helping to lock in moisture for healthy plant growth.

We’re looking to see what it looks like in a few months time when the plants get more established!
